The kits are designed to work with the holes and slots already on your crib, so you're not drilling anything new. If the instructions ever feel confusing, give us a shout and we'll walk you through it.
Yes, as long as you're using the right kit for your crib and it's installed properly. That's the whole point of matching the kit to your exact model—everything lines up and locks in the way the manufacturer intended. Toddler rails and guardrails are there to keep your little one from rolling out, so don't skip them or try to rig something from another crib.

A whole kit shouldn't be held up by one missing bolt, so if something didn't make it into the box or went walkabout during assembly, let us know your brand and model and what you're missing. Purchased a Viv and Rae crib for my son because it converts to a bed. I decided to convert it now that he’s a toddler. Based on the directions, I chose option 1.
The hardware provided doesn’t allow me to properly secure the bed so the side panels swing. You have to secure the panels to the bottom 2 holes and can use the crib hardware to secure it properly instead of the hardware provided. Once those modifications were made, it converted as it should.

Perfect match for our Hubble crib. We have the Hubble crib in Graphite Blue and these rails matched really well. Everything fit correctly and the finished bed feels very sturdy. So happy we were able to keep using the crib instead of buying a whole new bed.
